Welcome to Vaughan, The City Above Toronto!
As of 2016, it was reported that Vaughan boasted a growing population of 320,000 residents and in the next 15 years, the city could see its population increase to over 416,600. Vaughan is a very multicultural city, according to the 2016 Canadian census, almost half of its residents immigrated to Canada and almost 100 different languages are spoken.
Vaughan’s new downtown core is going to be centered around the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre core. The area of Jane Street and Highway 7 has seen extensive redevelopment, including the opening of the subway expansion in 2017. Along with new real estate and business developments, the city is also set to open a hospital in 2020. Along with schools, libraries, and lifestyle centres, this area will become the heart of the city.
It is also a promising place for investment as the city saw a 21.36% increase in the price of resale condos from 2016-2017 with an average price of $485,395. Pre-construction condos in Vaughan were selling for an average price of $403,999 in 2017, which is a 18% increase over 2016.
Residents of Vaughan are serviced by York Region Transit, VIVA, GO Transit, and the TTC. With the expansion of the Yonge-University subway line, it is even easier for residents to make a home and raise a family outside of Toronto and commute downtown for work. Motorists can efficiently drive through the city on Highway 407, 400, 7, or 27, connecting them to all the surrounding municipalities, Toronto, and beyond.
Look for the city to create more pedestrian-friendly streets, landscaped areas, and dedicated bike lanes, creating a more connected and dynamic community.
